The founder of the collection is Teodoras Narbutas (Teodor Narbutt, 1784–1864), construction engineer and Lithuanian historian, author of the nine-volume treatise “Dzieje Narodu Litewskiego” published in the mid-19th century, and other works in history.

The collection was received in 1946 from the V. I. Lenin State Library of the USSR (now the Russian State Library) in Moscow.

The founder of the collection is Juozas Naujalis (1869–1934), Lithuanian composer, founder of the Daina (Song) Society in Kaunas (1899), founder of the first Lithuanian bookshop in Kaunas (1905), founder of a music school in Kaunas (1918), editor of the journal “Vargonininkas” (“Organist”) in 1909-1910, organist, choir conductor, and educator.

The collection was acquired in 1960 from the composer’s son Zigmas Naujalis in Kaunas.

The founder of the collection is Kiprijonas Nezabitauskis (Cyprian Niezabitowski, 1779–1837), Lithuanian poet, parish priest of Varniai, Vilkija, and Veliuona in 1806–1832, Deputy of the Telšiai County Land Court in 1810–1812, Deputy of the Raseiniai County Land Court and of the Vilnius Supreme Court in 1814–1834, participant in the uprising of 1831.

The collection was acquired in 1947 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).
