Material Analysis of Documents

Paid material analysis services are offered by the Documents Conservation and Restoration Department. Such services include analysis of heritage objects and of materials used for their conservation and restoration. The department provides composition analysis of paper and its sizing, ink, paint, seals, and fabric fiber. We also identify type of leather used in making documents, method of leather processing, chemical composition of metal parts, etc. Tests are carried out using microchemical analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, optical microscopy, and pH measurements. Orders are placed by completing an order form at the place of service provision. The timeframe and price of a material analysis service are agreed upon when the order is placed.
