Invitation to participate in the scientific conference

SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY UNDER CONDITIONS OF CULTURAL CHANGE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION

The Wroblewski Library of the Academy of Sciences

May 3-4, 2012

The Wroblewski Library of the Academy of Sciences hereby invites you to take part in the international scientific conference „Scientific Library under Conditions of Cultural Change and Technology Innovation“. The conference will focus on the place, mission, specifics of the activities and development perspectives of academic libraries both at the scale of a single state and the entire region of Eastern and Central Europe. The conference will mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

The aims of the conference are to:

  • Increase  recognition of the library as an indispensable scientific and educational institution, and a centre fostering modern forms of cultural activities;
  • Evaluate potential and perspectives of scientific libraries from the geographical, chronological, technological, structural and other aspects;
  • Discuss the resources of documentary Lituanistic heritage in Lithuania and other countries;
  • Commemorate Tadeusz Wróblewski, his parents and contemporaries who contributed to the culture of Vilnius, the Vilnius region, Lithuania and neighbour states.

The suggested topics of discussion are:

  • The place of the library in the state system of culture, science and education institution: theory, practice, administration, education, and legal aspects; culture, science and art activities;
  • Issues of interaction and correlation of the library with scientific and educational institutions; definitions of aims and tasks of the library, and  means of their achievements;
  • Impact of modern technologies on the forms and transformations of the scientific library; aspects of the modernization of the scientific library; information, communication, education, scientific and other functions of the library, and their transformations;
  • The resources of documentary Lituanistic heritage in Lithuania and other countries;
  • Civic, political, religious, scientific and cultural aspirations of descendants of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; the Wróblewski family; the life and activities of Tadeusz Wróblewski; the libraries of Vilnius and the Vilnius region; book collections of the first half of the XXth century.

The conference languages are: Lithuanian, English, Polish and Russian. The presentations should be 20 min long.

The conference location is the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Gedimino Pr. 3, Vilnius. 

The conference dates are May 3 & 4, 2012.

Illustration materials should be made ready for demonstration via a digital image projector.

The article based on the presentations are planned to be published in the publication The Wroblewski Library of the Academy of Sciences.

The conference is sponsored by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Polish Institute in Vilnius.
